As a Stylist I like to help women by boosting confidence through their outfits, creating new looks, finding their style personality, looking through their wardrobe and putting new outfits together that they may not have thought of before, thinking outside of the box and styling pieces differently, having lots of versatility in clothes, highlighting any gaps they may have in their wardrobe, creating a shopping list, spending time researching what is available to them, shopping with or for them; all whilst working with lifestyle, budget, body shape and the day to day running's of life and most importantly YOU.
Last week I had a shopping session for a client.
She has reached a certain age in her life and felt her current style needed a re-vamp and to break her out of the norm of what she always grabbed each morning.
I conducted a questionnaire to get more insight into what she wanted from the session and from this I looked at pieces she already had, made a list of what I thought was missing for a great working wardrobe and then I did my research, based on what she had told me.
With medication, age and lifestyle my client told me her body shape and size had changed over recent years and she was hiding her current shape with oversized tee's and layering clothes.
She felt over the years she'd gone from an apple, to gaining some weight through her hips and tummy making her an apple and pear mix.
We agreed her shape was a petit (5'4") rectangle as her hips and bust were approximately the same and she didn't have a defined waist.
She also agreed with me that she was adding bulk to her petit frame and making her appear bigger than she was with the oversize clothes and long undergarment layers (that were mostly a different colour to the main top and ended at the area she did not want to draw attention too …. which with the band of differing colour totally drew your eye to)
The brief for the shopping trip from my client-
"Create new looks with old pieces I currently own and new pieces to compliment and mix and match with my current wardrobe"
After showing my client the mood board I had created for her, we hit the shops running! We had a plan and knew where to go and what we needed to try.
End of the session, we had ticked off 3 dresses, a jacket, shoes and some accessory jewellery.
I showed her ways to style these and gave her ideas with knowing what she already had at home.
She was so happy. I was so happy.
As I was so in the zone with helping her, I had a stylist fail and forgot to take photos of her! She will be sending me some snaps when she gets round to it, but for now here are some of the amazing pieces she bought and made her close to tears with joy of a very successful shopping session.
