Well I never! I am going to admit something now, shocked myself when I realised this too.
I LOVE MIDI SKIRTS! There, I have said it out loud.
I always had midi skirts in my mind for the wardrobe's of elderly ladies. You know the ones - bingo halls, collecting their pension, catching up with friends for a cuppa at the local café......basically my Nan! I grew up with her wearing pleated midi length skirts and it was an item of clothing that I never thought I would ever be seen in!
Well move over Grandma, this Mumma has a new love and its that skirt you have always worn!
The first midi skirt I ever tried on, straight away I thought it looked frumpy and old so that went straight back on the rack.
I then spotted another one, different cut, style, fabric. This one had a slight cross over at the front and a tulip style hem. Loved it, bought it.
It wasn't quite the "midi" I had seen my Nan in, but still a midi!
It was a good year later that I then started noticing midi skirts everywhere. Pretty sure they'd always been there in that time but it was a style I tending to oversee....now I am obsessed. I think I now own about 10!
So, how to wear a midi? Put it on -there done!
I have always pictured a midi skirt with a heel, I guess I thought by dressing it up more that would remove the "frump" I had associated with that look.
But after having a play around with different looks and also stalking Instagram and Pinterest you really can wear anything with it!
Bottom line, if your comfortable and love what you are wearing, does it really matter to anyone else??
Whatever your shape, you can find a midi to suit you. Shape, size, budget - there's so many different styles and colours out there.
Apple's - Midi's that are flat fronted and / or start below your tummy. A-line. Midi is perfect length for apples as ends towards your slimmest part of you leg.
Pears - An A-line midi will look great on you. Showing off your amazing waist and then skimming over your hips for an incredible feminine look.
Inverted triangle / Cone - Create volume on your lower half - print, ruffles, colour, texture to help your hips look broader to balance out your upper body. Create the illusion of a waist with a belt, or print on waistband.
Hourglass - Define that waist of yours. Go for gold with this look ladies!
Rectangle / Column - Same as the inverted triangle shape - you want to create the illusion of a waist and use details in your midi skirt to create curve from you hips.
